Every now and again I hear someone say that pressure cooked food is bland and watery. This is because they haven't tried these lip-smacking good honey garlic Instant Pot pork chops. There is nothing about these pork chops that you won't like. They are tender, juicy, flavorful and delicious. They are just as delicious as my favorite browned garlic butter baked pork chops or the classic southern fried pork chops. In addition, the pan juices are so good that you just want to drink them from the pot. I am not surprised as I've been perfecting this recipe for quite some time.
How to cook honey garlic pork chops in Instant Pot?
As I mentioned above, food cooked in a pressure cooker doesn't need to be bland and watery. Instead, it can be just a flavorful and well-textured.
In this recipe, pork chops are first covered with salt, spices and flour, then sauteed right in your Instant Pot to get a beautiful and delicious crust. After sauteing pork chops, we prepare the honey garlic sauce, in which the chops will be cooked under pressure. As a result, the chops get double the flavor, a great texture and a delicious sauce on top.
The sauce does not need to be thickened, it is delicious as is, but you can go ahead and do it if you desire.
How long to cook pork chops in Instant Pot?
A typical 1-inch thick, fresh (not frozen) pork chop will need about 8 to 15 minutes of high pressure cooking. Five to seven minutes would be appropriate if pork chops are first seared. Eight minutes of cooking will make a very juicy pork chop, while 15 minutes of cooking will produce a well-done, fork-tender pork chop. On the other hand, thin-cut pork chops, non-seared, will only need 5 minutes of pressure cooking.
Can I use frozen pork chops in this recipe?
To get the best flavor pork chops in this recipe are dredged in spices and flour and sauteed to get a tasty crust. However, frozen meat will not brown properly. Hence, I recommend that you defrost pork chops prior to cooking.
Recommended side dishes for these pork chops

Honey Garlic Instant Pot Pork Chops
Ingredients
- 4 boneless pork chops about 1 inch thick; or two-three large pork chops
- 1/2 tsp Kosher salt plus more to taste
- 3/4 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp ground white pepper
- 1 Tbsp all purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 5 cloves garlic peeled and pressed
- 1 cup broth vegetable or chicken
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 Tbsp white wine vinegar
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine salt, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, white pepper and all purpose flour. Season the pork chops with the dry rub mix, making sure to coat the edges as well as both flat sides of each chop.
- Set Instant Pot to sauté and give it about 8-10 minutes to preheat. Add the butter.
- When the butter is melted, quickly add the pork chops and sear until browned, about 2 minutes per side. Remove the pork chops and set aside. Turn off the Instant Pot.
- Add the pressed garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, stirring constantly. If you want the sauce to be thicker, add 2 tablespoons of flour, mix well, and continue cooking for 30-60 seconds or so, until the flour is slightly brown.
- Add the broth and scrape the brown bits stuck to the bottom of the pot. Add the honey and the white wine vinegar, and stir well. Taste for salt and adjust if needed.
- Return the pork chops back to the pot, placing them right in the liquid. They don't need to be submerged all the way.
- Cover the pressure cooker and make sure the pressure valve is sealed. Set for MANUAL, HIGH pressure for 7 minutes cook time.
- When the pressure cook time is up, let the pressure cooker naturally release for 10-12 minutes. After the 10-12 minutes, open the valve completely to quickly release all the remaining pressure.
- Remove the pork chops from the Instant Pot and let rest for 3-5 minutes before serving. Serve the chops with the honey garlic sauce from the pot.

This is really good but not enough to coat 4 loin chops.
victor says
Never had that problem, but you can always double the amount. Enjoy!
Jeannie Ryan says
Love this recipe and make it all the time for my husband and myself.
victor says
Happy to hear it. Enjoy!

You are very welcome.

Super! Guten Appetit!

This is the secondI time I have made this recipe and we love it! Very easy and one of the best tasting pork chops I have ever had!!

Happy to hear it, Jeannie. Enjoy!
Sheila Woodruff says
Hi Victor! These look amazing. I have a 8 quart Instant Pot. Do I need to increase the liquid?
Thanks for your help.
victor says
Hi Sheila, no, you don't need to.
Darla Humphreys says
This recipe was a hit with all (including the picky eaters). I will definitely make again!
Ashlee says
Excited to try this recipe!! Can I add some chopped red potatoes on top or would that ruin it? I love the instant pot recipes that I can add potatoes to.
victor says
Potatoes need a little longer to cook so I would not add them in this recipe... Pork (shoulder) stew with potatoes, that will work.
Marla says
Can I use a 3 pound pork roast?
victor says
I am sure you can but I haven't tried myself so wouldn't know the timing.
John Barry says
Excellent! Followed recipe exactly as written. It will definitely be my go to for pork loin chops. The sauce is soo good. For sure a five 🌟 !!
Rebecca says
This recipe is fabulous as written. Will definitely make again. I had to make some adjustments due to my ingredients. For those who purchase boneless pork chops from Costco, they are very thick; here are my recommendations. I doubled the seasoning mixture, increased the garlic to 5 cloves, used agave nectar (didn’t have honey :() and increased pressure time to 13 minutes. I added the leftover seasoning mixture to the garlic and butter for the roux. Turned out excellent!!
Kelly says
These pork chops are delicious! I doubled my dry ingredients since I had 5 pork chops. I cooked mine for 6 minutes. Thanks for sharing!
Jamie says
These pork chops were absolutely delicious!! Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe!
victor says
You are very welcome!
Fallon says
I made these and they were delicious! I’d like to try it with chicken breast. How long would I have to cook them for, and would I need to cool them on each side as well? Thanks!
victor says
To make chicken breasts, sear them 2-3 minutes per side and increase the pressure-cooking time in Instant Pot to 9 minutes.
Cammy says
What makes the sodium count so high.
victor says
Good question. If you cook two large chops and split the sauce in half, the sodium from the broth and the added salt will be higher per serving. If you cook 4 regular size loin chops and divide the sauce between the four, which will be sufficient, the sodium level drops by half. I adjusted the number of servings to reflect the serving size.
Kari Joy Garman says
I made this tonight. When I started I thought I had honey but I did not so I substituted 1/4 sweet and sour. I was so good. Will definitely make this again!! Thank you!
victor says
You are very welcome, Kari.
Kristin says
Could I substitute a different type of flour? I have coconut flour, almond flour, and cassava flour
victor says
Kristin, I don't believe those flowers can be used as thickeners, at least I haven't tried that. Arrowroot would be a good alternative though. You can definitely try, I don't think you will ruin the taste with those.
Maureen says
Tasty but very runny sauce. Not sure I’d make again
victor says
I mentioned in the post that you can thicken the sauce if you like it thicker. Roux or cornstarch will work.
Katie says
This sounds delicious! Could I make it with frozen, thin cut pork chops?
victor says
Yes. Thin cut chops take about 5 minutes, frozen thin cut - about 7-8 minutes.
Teresa says
Can I quadruple the recipe? I have 8 porkchops to cook, what is the best way to do this? In the IP, or in the oven?
victor says
Sure you can quadruple the recipe. If cooking in IP, stacking meat effectively means increasing the thickness of meat. You would sear them first in batches, then stack and cook as per the recipe but you will need to cook them longer. I can't tell how much longer as I've never tried that I would imagine 10-12 minutes would be sufficient.
I have several pork chop recipes on my blog, check them out. Cooking method is really up to you. I love baked chops, but I also love broiled and Southern fried chops.
Nancy says
can i use thin cut centre chops?
victor says
Nancy, thin cut choips will do too only reduce the cooking time to 5 minutes.
Anna says
Just put this in my cooker. Smells so good, can't wait to try it !!
Jenn says
I don't have the white wine vinegar can I leave this out or use something else?
victor says
You don't want to leave it out as it adds a nice bite to the sauce. Rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar will work. Plain white wine will do too. Red wine vinegar will also work.
Diana says
Absolutely delicious. I doubled the recipe (and doubled the sauce) and it came out perfectly. I didn't read the comments beforehand hand and cooked 4 bone in chops with the original cooking time in the recipe and they were completely cooked and incredibly tender.
victor says
Thank you for your feedback, Diana. Glad to hear that you liked my recipe.
Charlene says
What if my pot doesn't ha e a manual button
victor says
You must have a newer model, it should have 'pressure cook' button. Essentially, you need to be able to set pressure cooking time to whatever time is specified by the recipe.
Amanda says
Can I use bone in pork chops for this recipe
victor says
Yes, you can use bone-in pork chops. The only think that you would need to change is increase cooking time by 2 minutes.
Kim says
My pork chops turned out so Yummy! I will definitely be making these again soon 🙂
Michelle says
If I wanted to double this recipe, do I just double all of the ingredients, except for the liquid? Would the time remain the same?
victor says
To double the recipe, double the pork chops, and the dry rub ingredients. Double the butter. The sauce (garlic, broth, honey and vinegar) can stay the same. Increase cooking time to 8 minutes. It will be enough for 4 pork chops.
Carolyn Labossiere says
Victor , until I can get a inst pot do you think these would turn out ok in a crock pot ? They sound wonderful
victor says
Hi Carolyn, yes the seasonings and the sauce all will work just fine in a slow cooker. Cook on low for 4 hours and they will be great.
Melanie says
Can you make this with bone in pork chops.
victor says
Absolutely. Just increase the cooking time by 2 minutes.
Jo Ann says
Will do. I'm going to try the oven baked ones too, but it will be hard to top the Honey Garlic ones. lol
We're definitely pork chop lovers, and I love to try new recipes.
Jo Ann says
Thanks for the clarification Victor!
I actually went ahead and did the pork chops in my oven, and they were a huge hit. My husband said they were the best pork chops he had ever eaten (and that's saying something, lol). Can't wait to take the short cut in my Instant pot. Took a while in the oven.
Thanks again.
victor says
Good to hear that, Jo Ann. That honey garlic marinade is always a hit. It's very good. Well, let me know once you try the recipe in an IP. Also, if your family like pork chops, I have a really good recipe for oven baked pork chops with browned garlic butter. Delicious.
Jo Ann says
Victor, in step #7, it says to cook for 7 minutes, then remove chops (doesn't mention putting them back in the pot). Then in step #8, it says again to cook for 7 minutes.
Am I mis-reading or not understanding these directions? The recipe sounds delicious, and I'd really like to try it, but I don't want to get it wrong.
Thanks
victor says
Hi Jo Ann, my apologies, that was a misprint. I corrected it. Enjoy and please let me know how it turns out.
Krista says
This is the first time I tried pork chops in the IP…. I am so glad I did! My husband could not believe how good they were! This is because he does not usually like IP meats. I will definitely be making these chops again in my IP. Great recipe!!!
victor says
So glad to hear that, Krista. These pork chops are a winner in my book.
